Owner of Lounge Near Deadly Shooting Says Security is His Priority

WEST JACKSON — A local lounge owner is speaking out, after a deadly weekend shooting near his business. The incident took place in a parking lot near Ultra Lounge in West Jackson around 3 a.m. on Sunday. 24-year-old Jamar Rodgers was shot and killed in his car after leaving the lounge. Owner Anthony Bond says his number one priority has been security. “I mean, I did everything in my power,” Bond said. “We had armed security, licensed professional security guards. We provide a no drug policy inside and no weapons.” Bond also says the shooting didn’t even take place near his club. “Where the incident happened you couldn’t even see this club” Bond said. “It wasn’t in our parking lot at all.” Local business owners are worried crime like this is going to effect the area. “There’s nothing I can do about it. It’s just the crime rate is going up every day.” Abe Harini said, who manages the Phillips 66 off the Bypass. “I think it’s affecting everybody’s business.” Bond says he’s willing to work with other local business owners to try and curb crime in the area. “We’ve got to get together and figure out, along with the city.” Bond said. “Figure out how to prevent this from happening because this is going to hurt all of our business.” Bond says he recently installed a state-of-the-art security camera system, however; it didn’t catch the shooting. No arrests have been made in the shooting, but Jackson Police are searching for a beige or gray four-door sedan that may have been involved. Anyone with information is urged to call Jackson Police or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-TIPS.
