Storms damage units at Jackson apartment complex

JACKSON, Tenn. — Strong storms damaged units at an apartment complex in Jackson. One resident expects cleanup to take weeks. More rain soaked debris at Park Trace Apartments on Tuesday. “It looked worse than what it really was,” Abaigail Hampton, a storm victim, said. “No one got hurt.” Hampton says strong storms this weekend knocked over a tree by her unit. The tree broke glass and damaged her carpet. “It’s more like a jungle,” Hampton said. “Just looks like someone just put a jungle out there.” A tarp is acting as a temporary fix for an upstairs unit, and boards are keeping rain out of Hampton‘s apartment. Several miles away, residents like Alexis Williamson on Manchester Bay say a tree took down power lines. “Just was hoping the tornado didn’t hit,” Williamson said. Hampton says crews already started the cleanup process at the apartment complex. “Sunday was my birthday,” she said. “I was just so glad that I lived to see my birthday because when I came it didn’t look like that I could have.” Hampton expects repairs to take several weeks.
