Barbecue sold to raise money for local vet programs

NORTH JACKSON — A group of West Tennesseans fired up the grills for veterans on Friday. Dozens flocked to smokers at the Old Hickory Mall for thick slices of barbecued bologna and half chickens. Volunteers anticipate helping more than 5,000 of the state’s veterans. All proceeds from the fundraiser go to programs for vets like the welcome home event later this year. “With all the stuff in the paper and the news about VAs, we really want to get it out there and let them know that there are people who care,” Marty Clements, Madison County EMA director said. Volunteers served more than 250 half chickens and 100 pounds of bologna.
