Daughters of the American Revolution celebrate former soldiers

JACKSON, Tenn. — Americans honor one the most popular of national symbols, the American Flag on Flag Day, Saturday. West Tennesseans held their very own ceremonies as well. The Jackson-Madison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated their annual Field of Flags at Triangle Park in downtown Jackson. The flags were planted on the triangle where Airways Blvd, Main Street and Lafayette Street meet. Organizers said this event highlights the importance of remembering men and women who fought for our country. Most of the flags honor DAR family members who fought many years ago. “This is one way for us to preserve history to honor our American Revolutionary War patriots,” Jan Bynum said, Regent of the Jackson-Madison County DAR. Sponsors who bought flags had a grave marker near the flag that had the soldier’s name and the colony they were from. The flags will remain on display until Saturday, July 12 and you can purchase a flag year round.
