JACKSON, Tenn. — A grand jury will now decide whether a Jackson man should stand trial on charges of killing his wife and making it look like a drug overdose. During John Christie’s preliminary hearing Thursday, the judge downgraded his charge of first degree murder to second degree murder in the December death of Brittany Christie. Witnesses testified and phone conversations with his mother were played before the judge sent the case to the grand jury. Christie’s attorney said they are satisfied with the hearing. “Second degree murder is obviously less culpability for our client, we think that we’ll be able to prove his innocence,” said Brandon Newman, Christie’s attorney. Christie’s bond was set at $500,000. He was previously held without bond.
