DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Charges have been upgraded for a man accused of beating a Mississippi man to death in the parking lot of a Walmart last week. A judge ordered Jeffery Miller’s charge of aggravated assault be changed to second degree murder after the victim, Ricky Fortune, died from his injures. Police say during the early morning hours of June 12, Miller, 23, beat Fortune, 50, outside of the Dyersburg Walmart. Miller’s case was bound over to grand jury, and if he is indicted, he will be arraigned on August 16 in Dyersburg City Court. Miller is currently being held on $250,000 bond.
