EAST JACKSON,Tenn.-A sight of summer, the well manicured lawn. Not every home has the same curb appeal. Now city crews are weeding out overgrown lawns. “The extra mowing, this is tax payer money. when you pay city crews or individuals, all the mowing cost, it comes from the tax payers pockets,” said Gary Hardee, Coordinator with the Jackson Department of Housing Codes. City crews will not mow outside occupied homes. Instead homeowners get warnings which can turn into citations. They could also end up at a hearing in environmental court. If their yards aren’t up to code. Jackson homeowners are encouraged to follow beautification rules. Such as, grass is not suppose to grow higher than six inches. One Jackson homeowner says keeping his yard top notch is not difficult.”It really only takes an hour or two per week,” said Michael Roby, President of the Lambuth Area Neighborhood Association. Roby says the association has a program, “Halfway Down The Block,” designed to help homeowners looking to spruce up their yards, but are unable to.
