MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.- With the Fourth of July just days away, the Madison County Fire Department is sending out an early warning about the dangers of accidentialy sparking a fire. Whether you are grilling or setting off fireworks, if your county allows them firefighters said even the smallest spark in a dry area can quickly erupt into flames. They urge you to make sure fireworks are kept away from children and are shot more than 100 feet or more from structures and wooded areas. “Around the Fourth of July, we have a lot of fires as a result of people shooting off fireworks, they go up in the air, they’ll land off in some dry timber and they’ll start brush fires, some times they even shoot up into the eaves of people’s houses,” said Capt. Don Friddle, Fire Marshal with the Madison County Fire Dept. Madison County firefighters hope you will leave the fireworks to them on the 4th. The department is hosting its first ever Firefighters Freedom Festival on the 4th. The free event starts at 3 p.m. at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport.
