World Cup Raises Soccer’s Popularity in West TN
JACKSON, Tenn.- A local soccer organization hopes the World Cup inspires more kids to play soccer. Jackson Area Wide Soccer said the sport has grown over the past 15 years. Organizers estimate more than 1,500 children play soccer every week during the season. The club’s vice president calls the world cup the World Series of Soccer. “The publicity being out there, it being on TV, they see it, they get excited about it. Hopefully they’ll translate into them wanting to play,” said John Powell of Jackson Area Wide Soccer. Jackson Area Wide Soccer hopes to see an increase in enrollment.
