Man arrested in fatal Ala. cold case shooting
ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) – Eastern Alabama sheriff’s officials say they’ve arrested a man in northwestern Tennessee who’s suspected in his wife’s 2003 shooting death.
Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson said Tuesday that authorities arrested 33-year-old Randall Kilpatrick on murder charges in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Investigators say the death of his wife, Deborah Kilpatrick, was initially believed to be a suicide.
Authorities say Randall Kilpatrick told investigators he came home and found his wife’s body and the couple’s 22-month-old son who was also at home wasn’t harmed.
Amerson says he left Piedmont shortly after his wife’s death, although it wasn’t ruled a homicide or a suicide. Amerson says investigators in the cold case unit continued working the case and determined that evidence conflicted with statements Randall Kilpatrick gave authorities.
It’s unclear if Kilpatrick has an attorney.
