Tips to stay safe around fireworks this Independence Day

JACKSON, Tenn. — As we inch closer to the 4th of July, The Red Cross in Jackson is offering tips on how to safely enjoy fireworks. The Red Cross says never give fireworks to small children and always follow the instructions on the package. Another tip is to keep a supply of water near as a precaution, and make sure the person lighting the fireworks wears eye protection. “The best way to enjoy fireworks is to watch a professional show, but if you want to buy your own, just be sure that you have a safe way to shoot them,” Jennifer McCraw with the Red Cross said. The Red Cross says to only light one firework at a time and never attempt to relight a dud. Never throw or point fireworks toward people, animals, vehicles, buildings or flammable materials.
