HENDERSON, Tenn. — A man accused of attacking and raping his wife while holding her hostage with a machete takes the stand just after his wife testifies against him. Seth McCarty was arrested last summer on charges of attempted murder in the first degree, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated rape. “I don’t know that I feel anything, really, just confused at how she could make these allegations and ride it out,” Seth McCarty said on the stand, Wednesday. His wife also testified. She said on July 2, 2013, just three weeks after she moved out of their house, her husband pushed her face down on a couch and slit the backs of her legs with a machete after making her tie her own hands with duct tape. Police say after he sexually assaulted her for several hours, she made an escape to a neighbor’s house. She said there had never been any physical violence in their marriage before that date. The prosecution asked Seth McCarty if he forced himself on his wife. “No more different than our normal 10 years. I mean, it wasn’t, like I said she was on top of me. It didn’t seem that way to me,” McCarty said. His wife claims while holding her hostage, he turned on the movie “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” while telling her he wanted to kill her by cutting her head off. A Walmart employee also testified they saw McCarty buy duct tape and a machete. He said he bought the machete to kill snakes. “I’ve seen a couple snakes coming out of that particular point, I mean it was. I didn’t think a lot about it when I got it because that’s all it was for. Need something I didn’t. I mean I have a phobia of snakes,” McCarty said. Closing arguments will begin Thursday at 8 a.m.
