GRAND JUNCTION, Tenn. — A single mother and her four children lost their home in a fire while attending a family member’s funeral on Sunday. Family and friends have rushed in to help single mother Helen Pugh and her four children. The Hardeman County family lost their home near Grand Junction late Sunday night. “Everything they ever owned or have is gone. My first response was what can I do. The only thing I could do is to invite them to my home because we are family and we stick together.” Denise Luellen, the victim’s cousin said. Firefighters say the lack of water and time to respond resulted in total loss leaving Pugh and her children to find a new place to call home. “With this fire being in a rural area we had three fire departments respond to this because of the lack of water. We have no fire hydrants within the area.” Mike Vaughan said, Grand Junction Fire Chief. The Pugh family does not have insurance to cover their tremendous loss. Neighbors say they’ll help any way they can, and they’re just glad no one was hurt in the fire. “I still believe that good overrules and when crisis time comes. I just say those of us that believe as Christians we step up to the plate.” Vera Graham, a family friend said. We reached out to the Red Cross here in Jackson to see if we could find away to help assist the family. They say they will help the family with basic necessities like food, shelter and clothing for a few days.
