National cupcakery closing, local sweet shop thrives

JACKSON, Tenn.- It comes as bad news for one national cupcake business.According to the Wall Street Journal, Crumbs Bake Shop is closing all of its stores across the country. In a statement to the Journal, the company explained that money problems forced the chain’s hands, and it is considering filing bankruptcy. Tuesday, WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News caught up with a local sweet spot, Hali Hannigan’s Cupcakery who said business from local customers is the key to any business. “What we try to do is offer other products too, which brings more people in. So we offer lunches, we offer different products and that type of thing,” said Neill Bartlett, co owner of Hali Hannigan’s When Crumbs went public it was popular on the East Coast. Hali Hannigan’s said they also serve lunches and coffee to satisfy their customers.
