Residents complain of losing money at city’s only laundromat

BOLIVAR, Tenn. — Crawling bugs, dusty wall and soap-scum filled machines are just some of the complaints about Bolivar’s only laundromat, but residents said it’s the money they’re losing there that upsets them the most. “This year I’ve lost at least $300,” Lilly Perez, a frequent customer of the business said. And she’s not alone. “This one didn’t work…and this one,” Patricia Shorter said, another customer said about the machines. “You have to ask someone which ones work.” Shorter added. None of the broken machines have signs informing customers that they are out of service. “Then most of them don’t even spin or get all of the water out of your clothes,” Perez said. Getting a refund has proven impossible because customers can’t find the owner. There is no number posted in the building. City court officials said the business belongs to James Tisdale, but records show he died last year. City officials believe Tisdale’s family has taken over; but no names are listed on city records. “They just need to put an attendant in here,” Perez said. She has filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but her paperwork is missing a few things — the business has no visible name or known phone number. Despite the complaints, residents said they want the business to stay open. “The city needs a laundromat,” Perez said. WBBJ called a number believed to belong to James Tisdale, but were unable to reach a family member.
