Steady stream of residents take advantage of early voting

WEST JACKSON — The polls officially opened across West Tennessee on Friday. Election officials in Madison County say they’ve seen a steady and heavy stream of early voters. Polls close at four, but will reopen in Madison county on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Early voting runs through Aug. 2, and Election Day is Aug. 7. Poll workers say voters should give yourself a little extra time to vote. On Friday, 921 votes were cast. “For an election of this sort, this is certainly a record for a first day,” Kim Buckley said, administrator of elections said. “We haven’t even reached the end of the day and we’re over 800 voters.” Check with your local election commission office for times in your county. Don’t forget you must have a valid state, federal or military photo ID to cast a ballot.
