Two injured in afternoon shooting in West Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — Gunfire rings out in broad daylight in a west Jackson neighborhood. Two people were shot, but police say one of them is not simply a victim. The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m., Thursday afternoon on Tracewood Cove. Witnesses said they heard at least 15 gunshots. Two men were sent to the hospital, leaving residents speechless. Neighbors Jessica Fields said she is scared because so many children play in the area. “I’m shocked,” Fields said. “One of my kids could have been killed.” According to Jackson Police, two men were injured in the spray of gunfire — an 18-year-old from Bolivar and a 20-year-old from Jackson. Investigators said they were fighting in the middle of the road when the man from Bolivar shot the Jackson man. An unknown gunman then shot the man from Bolivar. “It kind of did surprise me in a way,” Tory Gray said, a witness to the shooting. “I’ve never actually been on a scene like that.” Fields said the crime is getting to be too much. “I mean it scared me,” Fields said. “My kids really don’t want to be over here any more because of this.” Jackson Police said the man from Bolivar left the scene and was later found in a nearby apartment. According to investigators, the Bolivar man is currently not cooperating with police and will be taken into custody when he is released from the hospital. The Jackson man is currently in serious condition at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, while the Bolivar man is in guarded condition. The shooting remains under investigation.
