JACKSON, Tenn.- One of the candidates running for Madison County sheriff held a rally as hundreds of supporters turned out. The event was held at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Jackson. Several hundred people came out for an “Early Voting Kick-Off Concert”, featuring the group “Magi” to show their support for independent candidate Rick Staples. Staples said as next month’s election approaches, he is appreciative for the support he has received. “Yeah, I’m really confident right now, I think things are going really well. We’ve got a lot of support, I’ve had a lot of events, we’re staying busy, but I’m hearing good things from the people I have contacts with, so I feel really good and confident right now,” said Staples. Staples faces Republican and former TBI Special Agent John Mehr in the race for sheriff. Mehr is holding a “Meet the Candidates” event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. across from the fire station in Mercer in southwest Madison County. Election Day is August 7.
