EAST JACKSON — Jackson Police are searching for a suspect in a homicide that left a 22-year-old man dead. Investigators say shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday, Robert Beasley, Jr., 22, was shot and killed when he answered a knock on the door of his apartment at at 520 Berry Street. “He answered a knock at the door and there were other people inside the apartment, and those people didn’t go to the door with him. Robert was the only one that went to the door and as he answered the door he was shot multiple times and he later died from those injuries,” said Jackson Police Capt. Tyreece Miller. Those who knew Beasley said the 22-year-old was trying to make a better life for himself. “He was talking about joining the Army and said he was in the ROTC. He knows I wear my veteran hat and he asked me about it and talking about how he was going to be an officer in the service and stuff. It old him that’s a good field if that’s what he wanted to do,” said resident Eddie Fuller. Residents also said Beasley had only lived at the apartment for a few months. At this time, police do not have a credible suspect description. Police are seeking information on a bronze or gold-colored SUV seen leaving the scene after the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS).
