Is your photo ID expired? No worries, you can still vote

WEST JACKSON — As you know, state law requires you show a valid photo ID to cast a ballot in Tennessee. But did you know a valid ID can be an expired one? The Madison County Election Commission says as long as your photo ID has your picture on it, you’re eligible to vote. Kim Buckley, administrator of elections, says you can use a state ID gun permit and even a boat license, as long as it comes from the state of Tennessee, or federal government. “What we’re trying to establish is that the person who is applying to vote is in fact that person,” Buckley said. “So even though it’s expired the photo is still issued by the state.” So far Madison County is seeing a record number of early voters. Early ballots can be cast until August 2. Election day is August 7.
