Neighbor saves family asleep inside burning home

BRADFORD, Tenn. — A family is rescued from their burning home by a brave neighbor who heard the crackling from the fire in his sleep. Don Lannom, the owner of the home, said the Sunday morning fire nearly cost him his life. “I didn’t think there was that much to it until I got out the front door and could see an orange blaze in the background so I knew it was burning bad,” Lannom said. Lannom said his neighbor, Jason Adams, heard the noise around 2:30 a.m. He, his wife and two children, who live just across the street, ran to help. Adams called 911 while his wife and daughter beat on the front door. Adams said he saw flames on one side of the garage and his son went into the opposite side then through the back door to make sure the family made it out safely. “He came in through the back and actually got to our bedroom and hollered at us so, yeah, it was amazing. He had to be pretty brave to go through the part of the garage on fire,” Lannom said. The Lannoms lost nearly everything, including four cars. Lannom said he will never be able to express his gratitude to his neighbors. The Adams humbly declined to be interviewed on camera. They said they just did what any neighbors would do. “Thanks ever so much. It’s great to have good neighbors, great to live in a community where people are close,” Lannom said. He said no one even had a trace of smoke inhalation. “I think God takes care of us. I think we’re blessed, very blessed to have good neighbors that are interested and were looking out for us,” Lannom said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
