Jackson K-9 officer loses battle with cancer

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — One of Jackson’s finest lost a furry companion and impressive officer on Sunday. Farro, a 9-year-old German Shepherd and the partner of K-9 Officer Jeremy Stines, served Jackson for six years, and was the department’s first drug detection and criminal apprehension dog. During his career, Farro located more than 300 pounds of assorted illegal drugs and also helped the department seize nearly $500,000 worth of property and money. Officers say Farro was a friendly dog, unless you were a criminal and trying to avoid capture. Farro was diagnosed with cancer this past Memorial Day, and will be greatly missed by the City, the Police Department and the Stines family.
