DYERSBURG, Tenn. — It’s quiet at Okeena Park pool, Dyersburg’s busiest community swimming pool. “It’s the history of Dyersburg,” Peggy Davis, a Dyersburg resident, said. The historic Okeena Pool has been closed all summer because of maintenance issues. “The community is just really upset,” Davis said. The pool has been a staple in the community since the 1930s. Initially city officials planned to reopen it this month, but in a special called meeting on Thursday, residents learned that won’t be happening. They’re hoping it’s not a sign that it will close permanently. “There are so many children who don’t have pools and depend on this one,” Davis said. Community officials said they have spent $75,000 on a filter for the pool, but there has been a delay with its arrival. They said they ordered the filter weeks ago from a company in Canada. Due to restructuring from the manufacturer, there’s been a delay. They’re still not sure when the part will arrive. City officials said after the maintenance, they also have plans to resurface the historic pool.
