Henry County inmates give away free vegetables

PARIS, Tenn. — In Henry County the sheriff’s department is giving away free vegetables to residents. The produce is grown by inmates in the garden at the prison. Most of the vegetables go toward feeding inmates, which helps cut costs. The extra food is given away at no cost. Sheriff Monte Belew says it’s a good learning program for those behind bars. “Everybody is happy, inmates get to work in the garden,” Belew said. “Henry countians get to receive some fresh produce for free so it’s a win win situation.” On Friday they gave away nearly 1,500 pounds of veggies to residents. They will be giving more away next Friday.
