McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Many in McNairy County are in morning after Commissioner Charlie Garrison died Friday afternoon. He was killed in a forklift accident while working at Packaging Corporation of America in Counce. Friends of Garrison said he was just a few years away from retiring. “You’d never expect something like this. And when it happens to somebody that maybe you just saw a couple days ago, it’s just shock right now,” said Greg Martin, a family friend. County emergency officials said with nothing suspicious about the incident, the company is handling the investigation. PCA has yet to release any details. Many in the community like Randy Qualls knew Garrison since they were kids. “Growing up, we played ball together. We have a church league where we attended church together and I was a younger person so he was someone you kind of looked up to. I did,” said Qualls. Martin coached Garrison’s two sons growing up, and said their community of Stantonville has lost a valued member. “If you’re from this area and this community, if somebody’s suffering, everybody’s suffering. We’ll pull together and try to help the Garrisons any way we can,” Martin said. Shackelford Funeral Directors in Stantonville is handling Garrison’s arrangements.
