McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — McNairy County Commissioner Charlie Garrison died Friday at his workplace in Counce. He was running for his third term on the County Commission. “It’s a tragic loss for the county because I felt like he was a very strong commissioner and had the county first, always,” McNairy County Mayor Ronnie Brooks said. McNairy County election officials say his name will remain on the ballot for August. If he wins over another candidate, the seat will remain vacant until November. Then a special election will be held to fill the position. County officials said Commissioner Charlie Garrison always had his community’s best interest at heart. They said the vacancy he leaves is much more than a seat on the county commission. “When Charlie made a decision, he thought it through very well, and if it was something he was not fully on board with, he would ask questions,” Brooks said. Commissioner Troy Moore said Garrison’s lifelong commitment to those he served will be greatly missed. “He’s a well known individual and he thinks a lot of his community and McNairy County,” said Moore. The mayor said flags at the courthouse will be flying at half staff Wednesday in honor of the commissioner.
