Humboldt City Schools awarded grant for before and after school programs

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — A West Tennessee school district has gotten an educational grant to fund before and after school programs. The 21st Century Community Learning Center grant was awarded to Humboldt City Schools for the 2014-2015 school year. The $200,000 grant will provide before and after school programs at Stigall Primary, Humboldt Middle School, Humboldt High School and and a partnership program with the Humboldt Boys and Girls Club. Superintendent Dr. Versie R. Hamlett says the grant comes at a great time. “These programs will provide students with opportunities for academic enrichment, youth development and family support during non-school hours or during periods when school is not in session,” Dr. Hamlett said. “Tennessee’s goal is to become the fastest-improving state in the nation; 21st CCLC is important elements in helping students reach their potential.” Programs, which are set to begin after Labor Day, will include tutoring and mentoring programs, arts and music programs and recreational activities.
