JACKSON, Tenn. — A Jackson man charged in a deadly weekend shooting admitted in court Thursday he struggles with substance abuse. “I got a drug problem,” Mondarrius Miller said. “What kind of drug problem?” Judge Blake Anderson asked. “What is your drug of choice?” “Any drug you can think of,” Miller responded. Thursday morning a judge formally charged the 21-year-old suspect with the death of Justin Williams, 20. “Mr. Mondarrius Miller is charged with second degree murder,” Anderson said. Police say Williams was shot around 1:30 p.m. Sunday on North Royal Street. According to an arrest warrant, an eyewitness identified Miller and Dontavious Hendrix, 23, as the two people talking to Williams when he was shot. The county coroner‘s office said it appears the victim sustained three apparent gunshot wounds, the warrant said. The suspect told the judge he is on probation for drug charges. “What drug charges are you on probation for?” Anderson asked. “Marijuana,” Miller responded. Miller is scheduled to return to court Aug. 7. He is currently being held at the Madison County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
