Henderson Fire Department receives national honor

CHESTER COUNTY, Tenn. — The Henderson Fire Department has been recognized nationally for their efforts toward fire prevention, according to a release. The department is one of four in Tennessee that has earned the Life Safety Achievement Award, which recognizes departments for actively promoting fire prevention in the pursuit of saving lives, according to the release. The Henderson Fire Department has two stations and four full-time career firemen, two part-time firemen and 25 to 30 volunteers, according to the department’s website. The award is presented by the National Association of State Fire Marshals Fire Research and Education Foundation and Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. “We are pleased with the fire prevention efforts of all fire departments across Tennessee,” State Fire Marshal Gary West said in a statement. “It is an honor to have four of our departments recognized nationally for their heroic efforts.” The departments received the award for organizing educational programs targeting specific age and at-risk groups, along with conducting fire safety inspections, checking and installing free smoke detectors, providing fire extinguisher training, offering multi-lingual fire prevention resources and promoting fire safety messages at a variety of community events. Nationally, 143 fire departments from 34 states received the award, according to the release. This year’s awards are presented for fire prevention accomplishments in 2013.
