North Side’s Junior ROTC leader promoted to regional director

JACKSON, Tenn. — A leader in North Side High School’s Junior ROTC program has been promoted to regional director, according to a release from the school system. It was announced Tuesday that Chief Royce Barron with the Air Force Junior ROTC program received a promotion to become the regional director for Junior ROTC, according to Jackson-Madison County School System spokesperson Ginger Carver. The decision was made on Friday, and North Side has not yet had time to decide who will take the place of Barron, according to the release. North Side’s “Blue Thunder” Air Force Junior ROTC was recognized last year for competing and winning the national high school drill team competition, and 2013 was the first year the cadets competed at the national level. The ROTC program is not a recruiting program but is a program that teaches discipline and patriotism to high school students, according to the release.
