BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A man accused of shoplifting in Camden turned out to be wanted on a felony charge in Kentucky dating back to 2011, according to police. Officers said when they responded to the call, Matthew Stanley admitted to trying to walk out of a gas station with an energy drink without payment. After questioning, police found that Stanley had provided false identification, according to police. Stanley was arrested on charges of false identification and theft under $500 and was taken into custody and released on bond. When Stanley appeared in court on Wednesday for his arraignment, he failed to provide any form of identification. After further investigation, Camden Police were able to identify the suspect as Matthew Stanley and discovered an outstanding warrant for a felony charge in Kentucky. Due to a clerical error on the original warrant, Stanley has been able to hide since 2011 in North Carolina as well as Tennessee, according to police. Stanley was wanted for 2 misdemeanors as well as a felony violation of probation. Stanley currently is being held in Benton County Jail without bond awaiting an extradition hearing Sept. 10 where he will then be transported back to Kentucky.
