Every Home Game Matters for Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. – Home field advantage is huge factor across all sports. At Lane, the football team will spend most of their time on the road this season. Of the team’s nine regular season games, only three are at home. “We’ve had a good week of practice. I think we’re ready to face someone other than ourselves,” said head coach Malik Hoskins. On Saturday, the Dragons host Benedict College for their season opener. The red and blue want to get off to a quick start. “We need to score, first drive,” said senior Damien Willis. Scoring fast and playing physical has created a friendly competition in Lane’s locker room. Lately, it’s the defense that has the offense’s number. “They [defense] raised the expectations of everybody,” said Hoskins. With that rivalry, the first year head coach is confident about his debut. “We’re the only game in town. We want to come out Saturday and show everyone in the city, community and West Tennessee what we’re all about.” The window is small for fans to see the Dragons play this year. Last year Lane played five home games. This year, just three. “We gotta win every home game,” said Willis. “Not that many to mess around with.”
