Fair leaders prepared for rain

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The weather has been hot but dry for the start of the 2014 West Tennessee State Fair at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park. With rain in the forecast for Thursday, some are worried the rains will drive the crowds away. Organizers said they will not let the rain close down the fair, but they have taken preventative measures to ensure the safety of those attending the fair. “The fair will not shut down,” said fair organizer Mike Peery. “We may have to lock the doors and close it if we were to see lightning. Lightning is the ‘bad boy.’ We are not too worried about the rain. We actually built some new ditches this year for drainage, which has really helped out.” The West Tennessee State Fair ends on Sunday.
