Home Depot Recognizes Jackson Firefighters on 9/11

JACKSON, Tenn.–In honor of 9/11, The Home Depot recognized first responders in Jackson for their service on Thursday. Workers gave Jackson Fire Department Station 1 a fresh coat of paint. “Clean up the kitchen, clean up the cabinets, paint the walls, paint the cabinets and try to give them a little more of a modern color scheme here at the fire station,” Scott Rea said. Rea is one of several Home Depot employees who took time Thursday to honor local heroes who protect the community. “There’s not enough you can do for these people,” he said. “When everything goes bad they are running in while we’re all running out.” Every year since the 9/11 attacks The Home Depot recognizes first responders. “We’re in the business to be the helping people, so when somebody helps us it’s just extra nice,” Jackson Fire Department Captain David Thompson said. Thompson was getting ready to change shifts on Sept. 11, 2001 when the first plane flew into the World Trade Center. “That particular day those people went way beyond the call of duty,” he said. “As a firefighter you begin to wonder what you were gone face for the day.” Rea said it is an honor to serve those who serve our community. “We’re very thankful to live in the country we live in, we have the freedom that we have in this country, and to be able to give back to heroes like this, it’s just a pleasure for us to do,” he said. Thompson said Station 1, built in 1966, needed the touch up.
