One driver dead in Toone accident involving dump truck

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. — A Thursday afternoon accident in Toone involving a dump truck has left one driver dead, according to the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies say a Ford Explorer and a dump truck carrying gravel collided on Highway 100 around 3:30 p.m. Eyewitnesses to the crash told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they saw the SUV cross lanes and hit the dump truck head on. Others who live nearby heard the impact. “I didn’t see the vehicles.” a resident said. “I know one man was okay, and I wasn’t sure about the other. Both vehicles fell several feet down a ravine. Crews worked for hours to pull the dump truck up, which was full of gravel. The driver of the Ford Explorer was killed, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Investigators are not releasing the victims name. Troopers said the driver of the truck is uninjured. “Prayers to the family. My heart goes out to them,” a resident on the scene said.
