Empty cars helping Jackson police fight crime

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jackson police say they are putting more patrol cars out — but not necessarily adding more officers. Police say putting empty, marked cars around town is a common and effective tactic that has proven to slow down speeders and deter thefts and other crimes. A police department spokesperson said a marked patrol car creates a police presence and can impact crime within a quarter-mile radius.
