Group joins in on Constitution Day celebration

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Wednesday marked the 227th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. To celebrate, members of the Daughters of the American Revolution participated in the national “Bells Across America” event. Schools, churches, businesses and individuals across America ring bells to celebrate the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America on September 17, 1787. The significance of ringing bells is to recreate the church bells that rang across the city of Philadelphia after the signing. Organizers say even though it was crafted hundreds of years ago, the Constitution is something everybody should know. “This a perfect opportunity for citizens to read and study the Constitution,” said Jan Bynum with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Daughters of the American Revolution hold a similar event every year to mark Constitution Day.
