DECATUR COUNTY — A man has been arrested and charged with murder in the 2013 Decatur County shooting death of Wesley Conway. Dustin Len Lovelace, 39, of Decaturville, was indicted Tuesday on a first-degree murder, according to a release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. “Wesley was such a good kid. You couldn’t think of any reason why somebody would want to hurt him,” Conway’s uncle Patrick Byrd said. TBI agents say Conway was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound Nov. 9, 2013, after deputies responded to a 911 call to 2265 Mount Lebanon Road in Decaturville. Byrd says the family worried they would never find out what happened that morning. “It’s been hectic, it’s been up and down. You always wonder if there were gonna be answers or what’s gonna happen,” he said. The 911 caller was Lovelace, and agents say they developed him as a suspect in Conway‘s death. The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. Byrd said Conway and Lovelace were friends. “It was surprising to find out it was somebody close to Wesley.. Wesley didn’t consider a lot of people close friends but he did consider Dusty close,” he said. The Conway family said they will keep the blue bows hanging in Decatur County to remind others that Wesley’s sudden, senseless death will not be forgotten. “We were all kind of shocked it come out today but we was really relieved to start finally getting some answers and hopefully it’s just the start of getting more answers and truth that happened,” Byrd said. The Decatur County Grand Jury on Tuesday returned an indictment charging Lovelace with first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, theft of property, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and numerous drug-related charges. Lovelace was arrested and booked into the Decatur County Jail and is being held without bond.
