36th annual thrift sale for charity brings in big money

SOUTH JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Fairgrounds was filled with shoppers Saturday for the 36th annual thrift sale for charity. The Jackson Service League runs the sale and says they work all year for this day. All items collected through the year were on sale and proceeds from the event will be distributed to local nonprofit service organizations like WRAP, FCA, the Dream Center, the Boys and Girls Club and more. The president of service league, Whitney Durham, says based on previous years they expect to raise $20,000. “This is our big fundraising event, we work for this all year long. We collect items from different members of the community, different agencies throughout the community and we work all summer to prepare for the sale,” Durham said. Durham says all the items that were not sold will be donated to Goodwill and other local agencies or be packed up for next year.
