McKENZIE, Tenn. — A West Tennessee Sonic manager competed against other employees from across the country to take home a classic piece of American muscle. “It was time consuming, very time consuming. I was up late a lot of nights,” said Sara Kilzer, who beat out thousands of other competitors to win a 1968 Camaro Convertible Super Sport. For nine days, Kilzer, the general manager at Sonic in McKenzie, had to tweet, post and update in order to get points and compete to win prizes with other employees from across the country. At the companies annual convention. Kilzer made it to the top three, where she had to play a series of minute-to-win-it games for the muscle car. “Once they announced it was going to be a minute-to-win-it type of game, my entire company that was sitting down there knew I had it in the bag because I’m so competitive,” Kilzer said. The 1968 convertible is worth more than $100,000. “It’s completely remodeled. They matched it with the Sonic red, and it’s got a brand-new motor in it,” she said. The car’s starter button is also styled to match the Sonic menu button. Kilzer’s son, Lane, cheered her on during the competition. Even though he is only nine, he says he wants to take the American classic for a spin. Kilzer says she and her son will put the pedal to the metal as soon as the car arrives in January. For now, the car is in California for the filming of a series of commercials.
