DECATURVILLE, Tenn. — Dustin Lovelace, the man indicted on first degree murder charges and 12 other counts, in connection with Wesley Conway’s shooting death, appeared before a judge, Tuesday. The family of Wesley Conway sat in the courtroom as Conway’s friend is formally charged on thirteen counts, including first degree murder. Conway’s sisters say it is hard watching Lovelace walk in shackles. “Wesley was a really great guy and deserves to be able to trust his friends and that’s not what he got,” Shelley Conway said. His family said Lovelace was one of Conway’s friends. A picture on his Facebook page shows Lovelace wearing a “Justice for Wesley Conway” T-shirt. “It’s harder to see a closer family friend than it is I guess a stranger,” Shelley Conway said. According to court documents, Lovelace stole items from Conway after shooting him with a rifle in his driveway last November. District Attorney General Matt Stowe said cases like this one instill fear in West Tennesseans. “Sometimes folks befriend the wrong people and bad things can happen and one of the things we have to do to clean these streets up so people can go back to being neighborly and not have to worry about themselves,” Stowe said. Stowe said he asked Conway’s family to leave blue bows hanging in Decaturville to motivate him to find justice for Wesley. “There are a lot of posters in this district. Far too many saying “justice” for someone. Justice for someone isn’t accomplished when someone is arrested, it’s accomplished when someone’s punished,” he said. “It’s not going to bring Wesley back. So in that way it’s kind of bitter, but at least we’re getting justice,” Brandy Conway, one of Wesley’s sisters, said. Stowe said TBI is still investigating this case. Lovelace will be back in court in October.
