BOLIVAR, Tenn. — Recycling center workers in Hardeman County have spent the last three weeks cleaning the facility. They are trying to live up to County Mayor Jimmy Sain’s expectations by the end of the week. “Mayor Sain gave them an ultimatum, basically saying you have 30 days to clean up,” said Steven Graves, the county’s director of operations. According to Sain, if the facility is not clean some workers could lose their jobs. “We are doing whatever we need to do to get stuff out,” worker Nathan Jordan said. County officials said the building has not been properly maintained. Old boxes, metal scraps and trash have accumulated over the years, but Graves said that is about to change. “There could be changes in positions,” Graves said. The mayor wants the facility cleaned up by Sept. 30. Despite the effort, workers are not too optimistic it all will be done on time. “I don’t think we’ll make it. I don’t think it will all be out of here,” Jordan said. Workers said they are uneasy knowing their jobs are in limbo. It is unclear when the mayor will make a final decision.
