HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A Henderson County man believes he caught thieves stealing on his property. Now two men are behind bars, and deputies said this could be the end to a recent burglary spree. Austin Bowles said many of the items the thieves took were not worth much, such as tools and a ladder. “This cedar chest, for example. I mean, why would people want to steal that? It’s not worth a whole lot, but its worth more to the family than anything,” Bowles said. Bowles and his father had a truckload of items to unload Monday after investigators recovered what burglars took from their property near Lexington. He said he drove by while they were stealing from him. “I noticed a truck. I ain’t never seen this truck before. Well, I asked the guys, I said ‘who are you, what’s your name, what’s your business,'” Bowles said. Captain Tracey Grisham with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department said this probably was not the first time brothers Joseph and William Hogeland had been to the property off Highway 22A. “Just a routine investigation led to us finding a large portion of property that was stolen from the house,” Grisham said. Bowles said investigators found the chest and decorations that belonged to them sitting in the Hogeland’s living room. “Like it was theirs. I mean, they just pretty much took somebody else’s furniture and put it in their own house. It’s kinda ridiculous. I mean, no respect for anybody,” Bowles said. Grisham said both men are charged with criminal trespassing, aggravated burglary and felony theft. “It’s possible that we have linked these suspects into more than just this burglary, so other charges may be pending,” Grisham said. Bowles said he hopes with these two behind bars the burglaries will stop. “I’m just glad they’re being put behind bars and they’re out of the way,” he said. Investigators are now searching for the brother of the two men, Kenny Hogeland, in connection with this burglary. They believe he is from Alabama.
