DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man accused of robbing another man and stealing a car after a drug deal has been officially charged. Darkis Watkins was in court Tuesday on charges of robbery, aggravated kidnapping and theft of property over $1,000 (motor vehicle). A man reported to police on Aug. 24 that he and another man had made a call to buy illegal drugs and later was robbed by the men who delivered the drugs to the Airways Boulevard apartment. He later identified Watkins as one of the men who robbed and assaulted him. The man said after buying the drugs he was assaulted, forced to the ground and tied up. He said the men then took his wallet, $120 cash, his cell phone, a debit card and the keys to a 2000 Chevy Impala. He said the men forced him to give them the PIN for the debit card and then left in the vehicle along with the man who was with him when he ordered the drugs. Watkins is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 9 for a preliminary hearing.
