DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man has been charged in the theft of three trailers from a Jackson business. Elbert Hayes III appeared in Jackson City Court on accusations of selling stolen trailers as scrap to a business in Trenton. He is charged with three counts of theft of property over $1,000. Three box van trailers were reported missing Aug. 28 from Hub City Waste Paper. The owner said the trailers were valued at $3,200 each. The owner reported on Sept. 2 he had located the trailers at Wright’s Auto Parts and Metals in Trenton where they had been sold as scrap. Trenton police identified Hayes as the person responsible for bringing the trailers and signing for the check. Hayes has been released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 30 for a preliminary hearing.
