DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The passenger of a man killed in a deputy involved shooting last week in Three Way appeared Thursday morning in Madison County Court. Robert Aspiranti, 19, told a judge he sat in a cell for two days covered in blood. Aspiranti is charged with simple possession of marijuana and violating probation. Aspiranti pleaded not guilty to simple possession of marijuana Thursday, nearly one week after Dillon McGee, 18, was killed after deputies fired during a pursuit in Three Way. “They killed him,” Aspiranti said. “I had to watch my friend die and now I got to sit here.” After the shooting, investigators said they took Aspiranti to the sheriff‘s office. According to an affidavit, a deputy found what appeared to be marijuana inside Aspiranti‘s pants pocket. “I was covered in blood, so I changed my pants that were in the car,” Aspiranti said. “That incident happened and the pants I put on were not mine.” Aspiranti claimed he did not get to cleanup after the shooting. “I’ve been sitting in a cell for two days covered in blood,” he said. “I didn’t get no shower.” The sheriff‘s office confirmed Aspiranti had access to water to wash off and said the suspect got a jail jumpsuit the same day as the shooting. Deputies said they turned his clothes over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation as evidence. Aspiranti said in court he was working toward living a better life. “All I wanted to do was go to rehab and get my life together,” he said. “They’re trying to hold me and keep me here as long as they can.” Aspiranti is out of jail on $250 bond. According to court documents, Aspiranti was already on probation for previous charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and theft under $500. He returns to court on Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
