DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Even though it may be a bit cooler this weekend, organizers are gearing up for Jackson’s first International Food and Art Festival. The idea grew from the Citizens’ Commission on Unity, formed by Mayor Jerry Gist. Its goal is to help our community grow in understanding of the diversity that makes Jackson. The opening ceremony is at 10 a.m., and the event is scheduled to last until 4 p.m. More than 25 cultures have committed to the parade, which will showcase native costume and dancing. The Jackson International Food and Art Festival also is the opening ceremony for the Season of Unity, held from October to December.
