Man in custody after Saturday morning homicide in Weakley Co.

WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — One man is dead and another is behind bars Saturday night after a homicide at a mental health facility in Martin. Weakley County Sheriff Mike Wilson said a resident of the home, Marcus Freeman, has been charged with second-degree murder. The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department was called to the Adkins House just after midnight. When deputies arrived, they said they found resident Ollie Grandberry dead. “We found the deceased lying on the floor with severe head trauma,” Wilson said. Wilson said Grandberry was beaten to death by 32-year-old Marcus Freeman, also a resident. Wilson said Freeman then escaped. “He left through his bedroom window, and at that time we weren’t able to locate him,” Wilson said. “We processed the scene and at the same time started to search for him.” The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department had outside help in finding Freeman. “We contacted the highway patrol, and they sent their helicopter up,” Wilson said. “We contacted Henry County Sheriff’s Department and requested their tracking dog, and they sent that dog.” Wilson said after the dog was called in, Freeman was found within 15 minutes about 300 yards south of the residence. Neighbors said they are shocked. “We moved out here to Hutchens Road, which is a couple hundred feet away, because nothing ever happens out here,” neighbor Zach Oyebi said. “So to find out a murder happened right down the road — it’s crazy.” “It’s crazy, especially in Martin,” Zach’s wife Sarah Oyebi said. “You don’t really hear of anything going on, and to be right next to it, it’s scary.” A woman who lives across the street described what she saw during the search. “I remember seeing the lights go across the window as I guess the police were going through,” resident Sydney Pollitt said. Justin Greer has worked at Generations for seven months and said he cannot believe the news. “It’s tragic that somebody was killed, especially at your place of work,” Greer said. Sheriff Wilson said right now they still are investigating whether a weapon was involved. Wilson said Marcus Freeman has been a resident of the Generations Group Home since June. Freeman is being held at the Weakley County Jail and will be arraigned Monday.
