Medina police chief resigns
MEDINA, Tenn. — The City of Medina is without a police chief. According to Mayor Vance Coleman’s office, Chief Chad Lowery handed in his resignation letter when he left work Tuesday, citing personal reasons. “This was very much a shock to me,” Medina resident Nicholas Bond said. The resignation reads, in part: “I have enjoyed my role as a public servant to the community and leader of my department … I feel at this time in my life I need a change.” Residents such as Steve Murphy said they think the department needs a change too. “There’s been a lot of controversy about the way it’s been run, and I think change and the resignation is gonna do the city good,” Murphy said. Murphy said he has been to the city board before to file a complaint against the police department. “The way some events the police department has been involved in were handled, I think it all went back to leadership, unfortunately back to the chief,” he said. Others, such as Nicholas Bond, said the city will be at a loss without Lowery. “Chief Lowery was a great guy, very nice and friendly, very well-mannered man,” Bond said. “He did what he was supposed to do as far as protecting Medina, his hometown.” No interim chief has been named. WBBJ reached out to the mayor and city councilmen. All were either unavailable or unwilling to comment. Calls to Lowery have gone unanswered.
