BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.– Businesses are looking forward to the city’s annual fall festival to bring in some needed customers. “Everybody’s really good in this town. They try to support their town, and all these businesses in this town, to keep them in this town,” said Pam Martinez. The Hatchie Fall Fest is next weekend, and her restaurant is downtown. She said she’s looking forward to more customers. “They usually come in before or afterwards and a lot of times for things like that we stay open a little later than we normally do, just to catch them in case they’re leaving late, and so they’ll have some place to eat,” said Martinez. They’ve been at that location since 2001. She said they’re optimistic about their downtown location even though they’re far from the spotlight of the busy interstate. “A lot of people when they’re getting of the interstate, they’ll come on in town, and look around and that’s usually how we get some of the business in,” said Martinez. She said the rest of that business comes from local support. The festival will be downtown at the historic court square. The festival’s website stated this is a community event all about bringing out the best in Brownsville and Haywood county. Across the court square on the west side of main street, a newer business, Food Giant, is preparing for its first look at the fall festival. “We’re very excited about it. We feel that the festival will give us a chance to get out here in the community and show them we’re here , what we have going on and build and relationship with the community,” said David Allen assistant manager at Food Giant. Food giant opened up earlier this year. They said they’ll have a large smoker set up in the court square to attract new customers that might not even know they’re here. “People come in from Nutbush, or around here and they go ‘wow I didn’t know we had a food giant around here’,”said Allen.
